What exactly is Rush?

Rush is a time period where the house organizes several social events and invites everyone to participate. You’ll soon find, however, that these events also serve as a great way for you and the sisters of aKDPhi to get better acquainted. Rush is geared towards providing a glimpse of what life, as part of the sorority, is all about. Even if you’re not sure about joining aKDPhi, we encourage you to attend Rush and to bring all your friends. After all, events are obligation and cost free.

Is sorority life all partying and drinking?

The short version? Absolutely not. Non-stop partying is a media propagated, common misconception most people have about the Greek system. We invite you to join aKDPhi because we like who you are as a person and not because you fit a certain stereotype. Each sister has their own unique personality and each is responsible for making their own lifestyle choices. For many sisters, partying is not a priority. We’re interested in your individuality and will support any decision you make.

Do I have to be Asian to join?

As an organization that seeks to promote cultural awareness, aKDPhi holds the concept of equality in the highest regard. We are an all inclusive Asian-interest sorority and encourage every woman who shares similar interests to join regardless of their own cultural identity.

Does being in a sorority affect my grades?

We know that you’re attending college to obtain an education. Academic excellence is important to us and a minimum GPA is required of all sisters. In many ways, joining aKDPhi can actually be beneficial to your grades. The house is filled with years of academic experience from sisters past and present. Think of it as your own personal college experience database. Our sisters’ high GPA’s and our successful alumni are an indication of our continuous dedication to education.

I like aKDPhi! How do I join?

Great! To receive a bid (a formal invitation from the house to join), you will need to attend at least two Rush events and one info session. You’ll also need to fill out an application and go through an interview process.

If I do get a bid and accept it, what will happen next?

After accepting the bid, you will officially begin pledging. The pledge process is an educational period where new members learn more about the sorority and its sisters. You, along with the other members of your pledge class, will be introduced to our history and traditions. Your class will also receive the opportunity to aid the sorority in achieving its many goals. Though challenging at times, the process will bring your pledge class closer together and teach you what it means to be a sister of aKDPhi.

Will I be hazed?

Both the university and aKDPhi do not condone the practice of hazing. We would never intentionally harm any of our new members because that is not how we believe future sisters should be treated. Along with a bid, comes an understanding that we value you as a permanent addition to our sisterhood.

How expensive is it to be a sister?

The dues you pay as a sister always come back to benefit you in the long run through activities like service events or road trips. Our sorority is unique because it does not have a house. While some sisters live with one another on campus / in Collegetown, others continue living with friends outside of the sorority. In fact, our dues are most likely the lowest of any Greek organization because of our special housing situation.
