Our chapter's main philanthropic focus is Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. On top or promoting and holding events for breast cancer awareness, each sister spends a minimum of 20 hours per semester on service in the Ithaca community. In the fall of 2008, our chapter logged over 450 hours.

This year, more than 211,300 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 39,800 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the suffering and deaths caused by this disease. alpha Kappa Delta Phi, the largest nationwide Asian-American interest sorority, proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project which is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer.

Through our nationwide effort, we promote Breast Cancer Awareness by educating ourselves, our college campuses, and our communities. Some of our chapter's accomplishments include:

  • Raising over $5,000 annually for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation
  • Hosting a bi-annual Breast Cancer Awareness Coffeehouse and Forum
  • Selling and wearing pink ribbon pins in honor of Breat Cancer patients and victims
  • Participating in Race for the Cure and Relay for Life

In addition, Cornell University, Tau Chapter of aKDPhi supports the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance as its local philanthropy.
